In my book I discuss the value of understanding your learning styles when evaluating colleges. I even have a workbook exercise to help you explore your learning styles.&
nbsp; That exercise is based upon VARK, the Visual, Auditory (listening), Read/Write and Kinesthetic (physical) learning styles. As with any complex topic, though, there are many different useful ways to categorize learning styles, and I'd like to introduce you to another one well worth exploring. Dr. Richard Felder, a professor of chemical engineering at North Carolina State University, has a website on which he presents a learning styles inventory based on four pairs of styles. He even provides a free online evaluation to help you discover your dominant learning styles. Then he describes things a student with each learning style can do to be a more successful learning. Dr. Felder's work is well thought out, and he is clearly sharing it from a desire to help college students be more successful. If you want to improve your understanding of how you learn, and to use that knowledge to learn more successfully, it is definitely worth some time checking out this site. |
